Prosecutors want to hide from the jury the amount of money that has been spent for Roger Clemens case17.05.2012The federal government desires to hide from the jury connected with the trial of Roger Clemens the amount of money that has been spent on the steroid witch-hunt. It has never mentioned precise amount of dollars. But it is clear that millions of dollars have been wasted for this case.
The former player of the Major League Baseball denied that he had ever taken anabolic steroids or HGH. These affirmations were proclaimed by him under oath for the House of Committee in 2008. The government didn't believe that his statements were true. As a result, he was accused in obstruction of investigation, perjury and false statements.
Even the judge Reggie Walton admitted that much money was wasted by the government. The judge acknowledged it, when he rebuked the federal prosecutors for the mistrial in the first trial. Reggie Walton noted that the government counsel had to be more careful. If the case were treated with more caution, this extra spent would have been avoided.
The judge claimes that a freshman that is specialized in laws is more qualified than the attorneys Steven Durham and Daniel Butler during the first trial related to Roger Clemens. They have violated judge's order directly.
But Walton confirmed that the government hadn't violated his order intentionally. So, he permitted to be the second trial.
Legal experts stated that it was mildly to say that prosecutors were guilty of carelessness. Actually, they were guilty of serious incompetence.
Federal prosecutors ask the judge to hide their incompetence that resulted in a mistrial because it would cause sympathy for Roger Clemens.
Moreover, prosecutors want to hide from the jury the punishment which would face Clemens in case it will be proved that he lied, denying usage of steroids and HGH.
If Clemens is guilty, he can probably face 30 years in jail.
Who would support the government that spends millions of dollars in order to sentence a person to 30-year imprisonment for lying about his intake of steroids and HGH? |
