How does it work?
Actrapid vials contain human soluble insulin. They are indicated to treat diabetes.
People with diabetes suffer for a lack of a hormone produced by the pancreas named insulin. Insulin is the the most important hormone responsible for the control of sugar (glucose) in the blood.
People with type one of diabetes need to have injections of insulin to control the level of glucose in their bloodstream. Insulin injections act as a substitution for natural insulin, and permit people with diabetes to achieve normal blood glucose levels.
The insulin works in the same mode as natural insulin, by binding to insulin receptors on cells in the body. Insulin makes cells in the liver, muscle and fat tissue to amplify their uptake of glucose from the bloodstream. It also low the fabrication of glucose by the liver, and has diverse other reactions that descrease the quantity of glucose in the blood.
Actrapid contains a type of insulin called soluble (or neutral) insulin. When it is injected under the skin it works fast, within 30 to 60 minutes, and its reactions last for about eight hours. It is usually injected 15 to 30 minutes before a meal so that the growing blood glucose levels after eating can be maintaining.
Soluble insulin is often prescribed together with intermediate or longer-acting types of insulin, which offer power on blood glucose during the day.
It is vital to control your blood glucose regularly and adjust your insulin dose as recommended. Your doctor or diabetic team will explain how to do this. Keeping your blood glucose level as close to normal as possible, and not too high or too low, significantly reduces the risk of developing late-stage diabetic complications.
Contraindication:
- Low blood sugar levels (hypoglycaemia).
